Director's Welcome
Welcome to our newsletter! Leading the Blum Center is an exciting opportunity for us to combine our academic backgrounds to address food security on campus and in our wider community. We're leading a campus collaborative to connect food security stakeholders from a variety of departments, as well as offering the Global Food Initiative, Sprouts and CropMobster Merced additional resources to accomplish their missions. Our seed grants are currently supporting seven research projects ranging from detecting agricultural water leakage to food access in refugee communities.  We're planning on several upcoming events in this academic year, including a food security symposium on December 1st. We hope to see you there!
---Professors Kurt Schnier and Karina Diaz Rios
Meet Adriana Nuñez
As the graduate student researcher for the Global Food Initiative, Adriana is working with the Blum Center on evaluating activities related to food security on campus. “My interest in being part of the food security initiative is to collaborate with the great efforts that are being done to support our campus community, that seek to help our students to achieve their highest potential. Working with a great team of professionals, I look to help develop tools that improve our ability to reach all those students who might be struggling to meet their basic needs and to show the tremendous impact that these interventions have in the lives of our students”. Adriana obtained a Masters in Health Economics and a Medical Degree from University of Baja California, Mexico. She is currently a Phd Student in Public Health at UC Merced.
