Take Action in Support of Farmworkers: An Evening with the Equitable Food Initiative

July 11, 2018 - 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Join the Blum Center for a special Take Action event with members of the Equitable Food Initiative.
UC Merced Professor Mario Sifuentez will moderate a panel including Ramon Ramirez, President and Co-Founder of Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste (PCUN), Margaret Reeves, Senior Scientist at the Pesticide Action Network and member of the EFI on-farm leadership teams.

The Equitable Food Initiative published its first standard and trained its first on-farm team of worker leaders in 2013. We now
have more than 20,000 workers on 27 EFI-certified farms from British Colombia to Mexico, and the support of two major retailers (Costco and Whole Foods), with more in the pipeline.

However, to realize its great potential, the EFI needs more buyers. This is where the public can best help! There’s no better place to begin concerted consumer support than here in California – the heart of U.S. production of fresh fruits and vegetables and where the majority of the country’s farmworkers are employed.

Join the Equitable Food Initiative for the launch of their consumer awareness campaign. This event will:
-Tell the EFI farmworker story
-Ask consumers to help expand EFI, bringing benefits to hundreds of thousands of farmworkers
-Ask consumers to take the win-win message to their nearest Safeway or Albertson's.

Free and open to the public.

Free public parking is available in North Bowl and Bellevue Lots after 6pm.
